Studying & Music – 90/365

90/365

No school today due to Cesar Chavez Day. This brings me to have plenty of time to catch up on studying for my online sociology class, especially since a test will be up on WebCT tomorrow. I don’t normally have time to read the chapters because the chapters are at least 20-40 pages each! However, I did very good today by reading the four chapters that I need for the test and even typed up 11 pages of notes on MS Word. I think I spent at least five hours.

What made me stay focused on studying was listening to classical music by Vanessa Mae (she’s an awesome violinist) and Chinese music by 周杰倫 (Jay Chou). I came across a song called 聽媽媽的話 (Listen to Mama’s Words) by him, and I just fell in love with the chorus:

聽媽媽的話 別讓她受傷 想快快長大 才能保護她
美麗的白髮 幸福中發芽 天使的魔法 溫暖中慈祥

You can find the rest of the lyrics and even the translation here.

I guess you can say that classical and Chinese music has a way to help me stay focused on my school work, but I just really like both music. They have a way to bring me back home, like with my family and Taiwan.

New Chairs – 89/365

89/365

We got new chairs in the Daily Sundial‘s newsroom! Haha. You can tell the difference between the old one (left) and the new one (right), but seriously, the new one is so freaking smooth! It’s definitely a lot of fun to roll around on it across the newsroom, but since it’s so smooth, you got to be careful. It’s also so comfortable! The only thing that is weird about it is the smell, which I hope it’s temporary. I don’t know how to explain the smell, but it just smells like this weird plastic and other stuff. I never thought how strong it was either until I stepped out of the newsroom. It’s like white-out or something.

And my Soundslides presentation of the 3rd Annual Flores Family Iron Matador is up on my website and the Daily Sundial‘s website! CHECK IT OUT! I also made a separate entry about it here!

Flores Family Iron Matador

My Soundslides presentation of the 3rd Annual Flores Family Iron Matador (click on the link!) is up on my website and the Daily Sundial‘s website!

Since it is on the News section, and that gets updated fairly often, I also uploaded a copy onto my website. It wasn’t easy to get it uploaded, though. I had the hardest time uploading it because it was exceeding the WebFTP’s limit. The maximum size I could upload was 4882.8125 kB, and for those who know computers, that really isn’t big at all. It was pissing me off really badly. After struggling to find ways to make it work by finding a free FTP client software somewhere on the internet and uploading the Soundslides folder for almost an hour and a half, I did it, and now I have it on my website. WHEW! I was getting very impatient because I have to study for two sociology tests this week, but thank goodness there’s no school tomorrow due to Cesar Chavez Day. I still have to study, though. Bah! But at least I’m done with uploading. I am so glad about how the Soundslides turned out. I hope you all enjoy.

Here is the response that I got from April Diederich, the president of Student Dietetic & Food Science Association (SDFSA), about the Soundslides:

Wow! We love the audio slideshow! You did an amazing job at capturing the feel of the event. My friend and I got goosebumps while we were watching it together. You are a true professional, and it is clear that you will have a future in the world of food photography.

We are so honored that you attended our Iron Matador, and we hope to have you at our future food events!
