Brother’s 25th Birthday – 193/365

Brother's Birthday

My brother turned 25 today, so we and our mom went to Din Tai Fung to eat dinner. Din Tai Fung is a very popular dumpling house that first started in Taipei, Taiwan. Their dumplings are very special because when you bite into one, it pops and bursts out this wonderful broth into your mouth. The meat inside the dumpling also tastes freshly made. In fact, you can see chefs working on the dumplings once you enter the restaurant, but unfortunately, there aren’t any photos of that because we went there pretty late. Anyway, the photo above is a shrimp shaomai (燒賣). It has the same affect that the dumplings give when you bite into one.

We also ordered pork chop fried rice because we have heard good things about it, and the seasoning on the pork chop tastes like how my mom makes it. I asked what was the basic marinade, and she told me that it is basically soy sauce, salt and pepper. Both the pork chop and the fried rice complements each other nicely.

Brother's Birthday

When my mom asked my brother what cake he wanted for his birthday, my brother said that he wanted an ice cream cake. So my mom and I went to Baskin-Robbins. We went into the store and checked out their refrigerator for a vanilla ice cream cake, but all we found was pralines and cream. I asked the girl on the counter, and she found this classy looking vanilla ice cream cake that looked so freaking awesome. It wasn’t even in the refrigerator that my mom and I checked, but I completely adore the cake. It tastes phenomenal, too. Nom om om!
