Golden Dragon Parade
Today I went to Chinatown, Downtown Los Angeles to check out the Golden Dragon Parade with my mom and dad. The parade was scheduled to start at 1 p.m., but they didn’t start until almost 2 p.m. and it seemed to last a little more than half an hour. I was surprised to see so many people there, and they are many people from different nationalities, not just Asian. It’s as if everyone was there to celebrate and have fun. When I was taking photos, I found out how hard it was to take photos of Chinese New Year. The color red just pops out in all different shades of what I really want on the camera, but I’m sure many photographers know why it does that. It’s so annoying. Haha.
Dance-O-Rama – 107/365
Haha, no. I’m not going to show you every photo I’ve taken.
Jonathan and I went down to Filipino American Community of Los Angeles (FACLA) in Historic Filipinotown because they had his event called Dance-O-Rama tonight. It’s open for everyone starting from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. midnight. There were mostly people who are like in my parents’ age, and they sure know how to dance! I was very impressed by it all. This man even wanted to dance with me. I was like: “Uh, I don’t know how to dance,” but I still gave it a try. Haha. I kept looking at my feet because I didn’t know what was I doing. I still don’t. Jonathan took a few photos of me during that moment. Eep. Haha. I also got to try out Jonathan’s external flash thing (name, please) that you attach it to the camera, so you can bounce the flash off the wall to avoid the harsh lighting. I wasn’t sure of it, but after trying it multiple times, I really like it! I got some good photos out of it (there’s one I really like), and that’s mainly why I’m not showing the rest of my photos yet.
Flores Family Iron Matador – 87/365
The Flores Family Iron Matador is a cooking competition that brings students that are mostly from the Nutrition and Food Science Department at CSUN. The competitors had about three hours to make an appetizer, main dish, and dessert using one of the two special ingredients that were revealed: basil or nutmeg. After each segment, everyone had a taste of what the competitors had made. That’s right, everyone, not just the judges. Everyone seemed to have a lot of fun, and it was awesome to be a part of this event. There will be a Soundslides presentation (basically a photo slideshow with audio) as soon as I am done editting it tomorrow in the newsroom. Haha. I just hope that it goes well since it’s my first time doing this. Two of my original ideas also didn’t really work out, so I hope the one I have left will come out good.
I will upload other photos of the competitors and the food they have cooked on another entry, but not today. Just look out for another entry about this event in about 1-3 days, perhaps after the Soundslides.
