SOC307 Diversity in America

SOC307

Kanie and I are both taking Professor Wang for SOC307 Diversity in America class this semester, and the professor drives both of us insane. She goes off onto tangents that aren’t really related to the course, so half the time we really don’t listen. It’s quite sad, but we can’t stop feeling such way. She even draws on the board, as shown in the photo, when she lectures! It’s crazy. What’s even more sad is that we both feel like doing a victory dance for getting through such an aggravating class every time it is over. *sigh* I can’t wait for this class to be fully over, but that also means my entire undergraduate college life will also be over, and that’s a scary thought in itself.

Ixya Herrera

Winter session, for me, is now over. Knowing that I just finished a semester class in two weeks is just awesome. I am so glad to have taken Professor Herrera’s Regional Music of Mexico class. He is such a great professor, and you can tell that he is very passionate about music. He even brought his daughter Ixya Herrara to sing for us on Wednesday.

Ixya Herrara

It was truly amazing to listen to Ixya sing live. I have listened to her singing on recordings since it was required in class, but listening to her live was a different experience altogether. She has such a soft spoken voice when she speaks, but when she sings, it really comes out at you. It just sounds so angelic and bold. There really isn’t any strain in her voice either. You can tell that she takes care of her voice, and that is very important for a singer.

Winter Session at CSUN

CH S 310

In order to graduate during the spring, I am currently taking a winter course called Chicano/a Studies Regional Music of Mexico (CH S 310) with Professor Fermin Herrera. I am glad that I am taking this course not only because I like music, but it’s also because the professor seems very passionate about music, and it definitely shows when he teaches. Today he brought his two sons to demonstrate us son jarocho music, and his sister also came along to show us zapatedo, which is an acoustic percussive type of dance. Haha, I hope I got those information right because I’m not looking at my notes right now. The performance was definitely enjoyable to watch.

Emle's Northridge

Emle's Northridge

After class, I met up with Jennifer because we had planned to go eat lunch together. We decided to go eat at Emle’s Restaurant that was down the corner near our school. It was our first time eating there. We ordered a house salad, a chicken kabob sandwich, and a tiramisu. The chicken kabob sandwich had a much creamier hummus that I did not  expected, but I think it is also because they added potato strips (almost like French fries) in them, and it added an interesting texture. The flavors were delicious, though. The tiramisu was to die for. It was so delicious, and the flavors weren’t too sweet that it was difficult to bear. In fact, they were just right, and ahh, it was just so yummy. Haha.
